Landing A Dream Job as a Solutions Architect

After working 13 years at two of the largest aerospace and defense companies in the world, the idea of working anywhere else never really popped up.

Yesterday was my last day.

How’d I Get Here?

I’ve always been the kind of person that never knew what they wanted to be when they grew up. I still don’t really, but feel pretty good about the direction I’m going in now.

It’s not that I’m not interested in anything, it’s quite the opposite. I’m curious about everything but not singularly focused or passionate about any one thing.

My job was comfortable. I was well-respected. Worked from home 4 days a week, 10 hours a day.

What Changed?

When the world took a mandatory pause from the pandemic, like many others out there it gave me time to think about my priorities. What did I truly enjoy doing, because to be honest sometimes I’d get bored with my work.

I’d also for the first time try to take charge of my career. First was having honest discussions with my manager that I felt I was capable of doing more and that I wanted to reach another level…
